| Link | Description | | Who: I spend the first day of school telling students about myself and my family. But students are people, too. So for the first activity of the year I ask students to complete a personality crest so I can get to know them. | | What: These notes give a preview of the people, places, events, and historical topics we will examine throughout the year. | | When: In this stations lab, students look at images of the architecture, art, communication, fashion, transportation, and warfare of various periods of human history. Students must search for clues in each image and work together to sort them accordingly. | | Where: This book activity explains why historians use maps and introduces map reading skills and map components such as legends, scales, and the compass rose. | | Why: These notes give a rationale for why studying history is important and enjoyable. I then prove that students love history so much that they frequently pay to learn about it. Click the link to see what I mean. | | How: How do we know about the past? I use a series of challenges to show how studying artifacts, writings (primary and secondary sources), art, and arcitecture can unlock the mysteries of the past. |
