Song Rewrite

Point Value: 20 points

Estimated Time to Complete: 1 period

Task: Take a simple song that everyone knows (a Christmas song, Happy Birthday, Mary Had a Little Lamb, etc.) and rewrite the words so that it's about a historical event.

If you have Microsoft Word you can download the .doc version of these instructions. Otherwise, download the printer-friendly pdf version.

Example: The Twelve Days of Tonalpohualli by Cassady

(Woodside note: This is pretty graphic, but it fits the Aztec... Yikes!)

On the twelfth day of Tonalpohualli, the Aztec sent to me...
Twelve tribute nations,
Eleven warriors warring,
Ten slaves a-slaving,
Nine priests a-killing,
Eight children crying,
Seven bowls of blood,
Six blood stained steps,
Five obsidian blades,
Four people screaming,
Three hairless dogs,
Two shrines for worship,
And a beating heart in a priest's hand!
